Saudade

Saudade [sodad]1[ref. necessary] (in Portuguese: [sɐwˈðaðɨ]; in Brazilian Portuguese [sawˈdadi] or [sawˈdadʒi]) is a Portuguese word, from the Latin solitas, atis which expresses a complex feeling where melancholy, nostalgia and hope mingle.

Saudade is considered a Portuguese word difficult to translate, to the point that the creation of a French neologism has even been considered.

The French dictionary Larousse defines it as “sentiment of delicious nostalgia, desire for elsewhere” there is no corresponding term in French for all of Saudade's meanings, however “langeur” is an acceptable approximation.
